Sleepy Hollow Elementary School

Inclusion

The Orinda Union School District has an inclusion program at several of our elementary schools including Sleepy Hollow. Inclusion is a model within special education where students with disabilities are educated in general education classes alongside their peers without disabilities. Students with disabilities are seen as full members of these classes. An inclusion specialist collaborates with general education teachers to modify the curriculum and provide social supports to help all students succeed. Many students in the inclusion program are also supported by speech therapists, an occupational therapist, paraprofessionals, etc. The goal of inclusion is not only to improve outcomes for students with disabilities but to promote a culture of acceptance and respect for our differences.
